Handful of Goals Gives Ranger Men's Soccer Win Over Purdue Northwest

Five Different Players Score During Match

Parkside 5, Purdue Northwest 2

HEAR FROM COACH ZITZKE

"We came out right off the bat with excellent focus," head coach Jason Zitzke said. "We were into the game right away and we got early goals."

"We were in our shape defensively, which helped us to get some more opportunities offensively," Zitzke added. "Our guys off the bench really added a good boost after we had gotten into a lull and they had picked us up to help us add another level to our game. It was good to see the guys who came off the bench really give us energy."

HOW IT HAPPENED

Parkside was able to get the jump on Purdue Northwest and in the 8th minute, redshirt-junior Jack Krenzien scored his first goal of the season. The goal came off a corner kick from redshirt-junior Leki Prpa where Krenzein found a gap in the defense and was able to head the ball past the keeper. The Rangers were able to keep the lead and in the 30th minute, redshirt-senior Evan Garcia scored his second goal of the season, again off an assist from Prpa. Garcia was able to slot the ball past the keeper, putting Parkside up 2-0 at the half.

In the 65th minute, redshirt-senior Vic Vera added his third goal of the season off a pass from redshirt-freshman Nikola Kesich. Almost three minutes later, the Pride finished on a scoring opportunity to put them on the scoreboard, but redshirt-freshman Jack Mittelsteadt responded with a goal of his own in the 69th minute after beating the keeper and finishing on an open net.
Purdue Northwest would score once more in the 71st minute lessen the deficit, however; Prpa, already with two assists on the game, put away a goal of his own in the 76th minute. The score would remain 5-2 until the final whistle blew.
