The Miners took game one, making a split on the day for the Rangers. Parkside finished the 2018 season at 21-27 overall and 10-18 in the conference, making it the first time since 2007 and 2008 that Parkside had back-to-back seasons with 19 wins. It was also the most wins in a season since 2010 (30-21).
In game one, it took until extra innings, but a three-run top of the eighth inning doomed the Rangers. Parksided plated runs in the bottom of the first inning off an error and the bottom of the sixth inning off an RBI single by
Danielle Crockett.
Allison Hausl had it rolling until the eighth inning, but finished with a complete-game allowing seven hits with five runs and seven strikeouts.
Crockett finished 2-for-4 while
Kellie Fenza went 1-for-3 with a two runs and a double.
Game two was a 1-1 pitcher's duel for the first 4.5 innings and ended with freshman
Kate Czoschke earning her first career win and
Alyssa Hrncar picking up her second save of the season.
In the bottom of the second inning Hausl hit her first home run of the season on a deep shot to right center field to make it 1-0. The Miners got that run back in the top of the fourth inning, but Parkside broke through with a big three-run bottom of the fifth inning.
Adrien Hall hit a double that scored
Megan Aliverti and
Madison Manders followed that with a two-run double that scored Crockett and Hall, making it 4-1. After back-to-back singles to open up the top of the seventh inning, Hrncar came in to close it down and got a huge defensive play out of Fenza in right field, who threw out a runner at the plate followed by Aliverti throwing out a runner at third base on the same play.
In game two, Crockett went 3-for-3 while
Samantha Newtoff went 2-for2 with a double. Hall and Manders each had a double.
