No. 5 UIS Wins Both on Saturday over Baseball

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Parkside baseball team will now have to look to Sunday to end No. 5 ranked Illinois-Springfield's amazing winning streak, which now stands at 25 games after the Prairie Stars won both games over the Rangers on Saturday. UIS took game one 7-2 and won game two 7-1.

In game one, it went scoreless until the bottom of the third inning where UIS broke through with three runs and added another in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead. The Rangers put a nice inning together in the sixth, scoring a pair of runs to make it 4-2 at the time but UIS quickly matched the Rangers. In the sixth, Max Widmar hit a big two-run double down the left field line that scored Domenic Hammudeh and Troy Bittenbender, but that was all the Rangers could plate in the game as Parkside was held to two hits.

In game two, Parkside took the early led with a run in the top of the first inning. Bittenbender hit a one-out single up the middle and Hammudeh ripped an RBI double to left center to make it 1-0 Rangers.

UIS followed that by holding the Green & White scoreless for the rest of the way and scoring runs in four straight innings. Parkside was charged with five errors in the game and had four hits, all of which came from four different players.

The Rangers will face the Prairie Stars twice on Sunday at noon and 3 p.m., hoping to end the team's winning streak.
