KENOSHA, Wis. – Parkside softball welcomed in Rockhurst for the team's 2018 home opener on Saturday and the teams went on to split a doubleheader with both teams earning a shutout win in the process at the Kenosha Bradford Softball Field. Rockhurst won game one 6-0 and the Rangers came back to take game two 8-0 in six innings thanks to a complete-game shutout by
Alyssa Hrncar.

In game one, Rockhurst jumped out to a huge lead early, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning to lead 4-0 right out of the gates. The Rangers' offense was limited to four hits by the Rockhurst starter Shannon Greene, who also did not allow a walk in the game.
Jessica Miklos finished 2-for-3 with a double to lead the way while
Morgan Sikon and
Danielle Crockett each had hits.
Game two was the complete opposite of game one, as this time Parkside took the early lead after one inning, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to lead 2-0. In the first,
Jessica Shields led off with a single and stole second.
Kellie Fenza followed that with a single to put runners on the corners and
Morgan Sikon ripped a two-run single through the left side.
Parkside's offense got hot late, scoring a run in the each the fourth and fifth inning before piling on four runs in the sixth. Crockett drilled an RBI double off the left field wall to score Sikon in the fourth and Fenza hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. In the bottom of the sixth,
Madison Manders hit a two-run single with the bases loaded to make it 6-0 Rangers. Shields followed that with an RBI single to score
Samantha Newtoff and Fenza ended the game with an RBI single to score Manders.
Hrncar improved to 7-2 this season by pitching all 6.0 innings allowing just two hits and two walks. Parkside got a huge lift out of the top of the order, as Shields went 3-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases and Fenza went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base. Sikon finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and Crockett went 2-for-3.
The Rangers will hit the road next weekend, first battling Missouri-St. Louis in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 17 and then taking on Maryville on Sunday, March 18. Both days will feature noon and 2 p.m. games.
