Rangers Drop Pair of One-Run Games to No. 8 Southern Indiana

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Senior Carly Dundee had four hits and also pitched a complete game, but the Wisconsin-Parkside softball team dropped a pair of one-run games to eighth-ranked Southern Indiana on Friday at the USI Softball Field.

The Screaming Eagles won the opening game 3-2 when Caitlyn Bradley hit a one-out, walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning and completed the sweep with a 2-1 win in game two.

Wisconsin-Parkside, which has already defeated two ranked teams this season in Grand Valley State and Indianapolis, dropped to 13-23 overall and 8-10 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Southern Indiana improved to 36-8 overall and 15-5 in conference play with the two victories on Friday.

The Rangers held leads in both games, but the Screaming Eagles rallied in both contests.

Wisconsin-Parkside jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one. Jessica Shields singled to lead off the game and stole her 16th base of the season to move into scoring position with no outs.

After Kellie Fenza drew a walk, Dundee lined a single up the middle which brought home Shields with the first run of the game and Fenza dashed all the way around to score when the ball eluded the Southern Indiana centerfielder.

Freshman starter Allison Hausl kept the Screaming Eagles off the scoreboard until the bottom of the third inning. Marleah Fossett had an RBI single and Haley Hodges hit a sacrifice fly to knot the game at 2-2.

Southern Indiana then pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the opener 3-2 when Bradley singled through the left side to score Alisha Ludwig.

Hausl went 6.1 innings and permitted just two earned runs while striking out two batters in taking the loss.

Dundee was 2-for-3 with an RBI in game one, while Shields and Madison Manders also collected base hits.

Wisconsin-Parkside also took an early lead in game two by scoring a run in the top of the third inning. Shields singled up the middle to begin the inning, but was thrown out trying to steal second. Fenza and Dundee followed with infield hits and both runners moved up a base on a throwing error.

Senior Rachel Seefeldt delivered an RBI single to center, which brought home Fenza giving the Rangers a 1-0 lead.

Southern Indiana answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Screaming Eagles scored their runs on a Ranger throwing error and a sacrifice fly by Claire Johnson.

The Rangers had an opportunity to tie the score in the top of the fifth inning after Dundee hit a two-out double, but a flyout ended the scoring threat.

Dundee went 2-for-3 at the plate and also went 6.0 innings in the circle allowing six hits and no earned runs.

Shields, Fenza, Seefeldt and Cassie Walek each had base hits for the Rangers in game two.

Wisconsin-Parkside will return to action on Saturday (April 15) when it visits Bellarmine for a GLVC doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
