SOMERS, Wis. (Apr. 16, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball squad split its Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader against William Jewell College by taking the first game 5-1 and dropping the second 15-1 at Case Softball Complex.

The opening game of the twinbill started off as a pitchers dual, where only 3 combined hits were recorded between both teams after three and one half innings.  The offense got started in the Rangers (7-34, 4-20 GLVC) half of the fourth inning as Courtney Ellingson hit a single and scored Carly Dundee from second base.  The Cardinals (21-23, 11-13 GLVC) manufactured a run of their own in the top of the fifth.  Parkside returned the favor in the bottom half of the inning after Madison Manders hit a one out double to right field, and eventually scored on an error.

The Rangers pulled away in the bottom of the sixth, starting off with a RBI single from Jordan Nichols.  Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Manders sent two runners across the plate with a single to right field.  With the 5-1 lead, Parkside's Carly Dundee closed out the game pitching the four-hit, complete game and earned her fifth win of the season.

The second game was controlled by William Jewell from the opening inning, scoring four runs and then adding six more in the fourth.  The Rangers only run in the game came in the bottom of the fourth, when Rachel Seefeldt sent the inning's opening pitch sky high, and just past the left field fence for a home run.  The Cardinals tacked on five more runs to take the 15-1 victory.

The Rangers will return to field tomorrow for a GLVC doubleheader against Rockhurst University, with the opening pitch at noon.  The team will also be honoring their two seniors before the first game.
