EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Apr. 10, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball team scored the final nine runs in the front end of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader, claiming the 9-6 win and sending the University of Southern Indiana a rare home defeat before falling 4-3 in extra innings in the nightcap on Sunday at the USI Softball Field.

A big rally in the opener propelled the Rangers (5-32, 2-19 GLVC) to the win, sending the Screaming Eagles (29-13, 17-5 GLVC) a rare home loss. UW-Parkside exploded for four runs in two separate innings to negate USI's early 6-0 lead.

The host Eagles struck first, plating a run in the top of the first before adding four in the second and one more in the third for the 6-0 lead.

UW-Parkside's offense came alive in the bottom of the third, piling on four runs courtesy of RBI hits from Rachel Seefeldt, Raegan Fingerman, and Caressa DeRossett.

The Rangers' seized the lead in the fifth inning, pouring on four more scores to take the 8-6 lead. A Madison Manders infield single tallied the first run of the frame before Courtney Ellingson cleared the bases with a three-RBI double to center field.

Seefeldt tacked on an insurance run in the sixth inning, belting a leadoff home run to give the visitors a three-run buffer heading into the final inning.

Seefeldt led the offense, going three-for-four at the dish with two RBIs while scoring two more runs. Kellie Fenza was two-for-four while 10 total Rangers collected a hit during the game.

Carly Dundee netted the win, pitching 5 2/3 innings of long relief, striking out two while allowing just one earned run. USI's Caitlyn Bradley suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs in 2 1/3 innings of work.

In game two, USI plated two runs in the opening inning and pushed across one more in the fifth to stake a 3-0 edge. UW-Parkside battled back in the bottom of the seventh, bringing in three runs to tie the game and force extra innings.

Cassie Walek singled down the left field line with the bases loaded to score Ellingson for the inning's first run before a Fenza double to right center field scored Kat Schaefer and Morgan Sikon to tie the game. UW-Parkside had the potential game winning run on third before a groundout allowed USI to escape the inning.

In the eighth, two doubles, including one off the bat off Grace Clark with two outs plated the eventual game-winner as the Screaming Eagles salvaged a split with the 4-3 win.

Fenza and DeRossett led the Rangers at the plate, both collecting a pair of hits.

Dundee was saddled with the loss, allowing two hits and one run in 2 1/3 innings of work in relief of Amber Ramos who struck out two over the opening 5 2/3 innings. USI's Sarah Owens nabbed the complete game win, striking out nine while allowing three earned runs.

UW-Parkside is back on the diamond on Wednesday afternoon, resuming its halted game against Lewis University with the game tied 7-7 heading into the bottom of the seventh. Depending on the length of the halted game, a non-conference contest between the two squads may commence at the conclusion of the halted GLVC game.
