SOMERS, Wis. -- The Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team will begin its quest for its sixth Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament title on Sunday (Oct. 30) when it visits Missouri-St. Louis for a quarterfinal match at Don Dallas Field.
The Rangers, who enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed, finished the regular season on a four-match winning streak. Wisconsin-Parkside concluded the regular season with a 10-5-2 overall record and a 10-4-1 mark in the GLVC.
Missouri-St. Louis enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed after finishing the year with an 11-3-1 overall record and an 11-3-1 record in conference play.
Missouri-St. Louis won the regular season meeting 1-0 on Oct. 9 in St. Louis. Lauren Lottmann scored 3:47 into the match and the Tritons made the goal stand up over the final 86 minutes.
Wisconsin-Parkside, which is making its GLVC-record 19th tournament appearance, was led offensively by sophomore
Lexi Porter and senior
Jillian Hetfleisch. Porter led the Rangers with seven goals and 15 points, while Hetfleisch scored four goals and was second on the squad with 13 points.
Lauren Bialas added four goals and 10 points and
Vianey Hernandez had three goals and tied with Bialas for third on the squad with 10 points.
Freshman
Adrianna Bratel has been outstanding in goal for the Rangers as she enters the tournament with an 0.81 goals against average. She finished the season with a 6-3-2 overall record and five shutouts.
Truman State earned the top seed in the tournament with a 12-1-2 conference record and will host No. 8 seed Southern Indiana on Sunday. In other first round action on Sunday, No. 2 seed Rockhurst will host No. 7 Quincy and No. 4 seed McKendree will meet No. 5 seed Bellarmine.
Each of the four quarterfinal winners will advance to the GLVC Tournament semifinals, which will be hosted for the first time in the sport's history at a neutral site by the GLVC at Carroll Stadium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis, Ind., on Nov. 4. The two semifinal contests will be played at times to be determined, while the 2016 GLVC Tournament final will take place on Nov. 6.
