Lindenwood Dual Results

SAINT CHARLES, Mo. (Jan. 8, 2016)-- The sixth-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside wrestling squad ran roughshod over the competition on Friday at the Lindenwood Duals, collecting a trio of dual match victories. The Rangers opened the day by shutting out Truman State University 49-0 before steamrolling Ouachita Baptist University 42-4. The Green and White closed the afternoon with a 31-6 win over 10th-ranked and host Lindenwood University, sending the nationally-ranked Lions their first dual loss of the season.

The Rangers (5-1) were firing on all cylinders in the opener against Truman State (5-7), collecting four pins for the program's first dual meet shutout since a 41-0 win over North Central College on Nov. 27, 2012.

Ronzel Darling got things started at 125-pounds, pinning Josiah Lunceford in just 70 seconds while Joseph Her followed with a tech fall victory at 133-pounds.  Pernevlon Sheppard (141-pounds), Frank Yattoni IV (149-pounds), and Brandt Welcher (157-pounds) notched back-to-back-to-back major decision victories with 165-pounder Nick Fishback earning a 15-0 tech fall win over the Bulldog's Steven Serbinski. Nick Becker needed only 53 seconds to pin Matt Yancey at 174-pounds while Montrail Johnson pinned Luke Kotomos in 2:42 at 184-pounds. Jake Armellani grinded out a 6-4 decision at 197-pounds before Matt Halverson closed the dual by barely breaking a sweat, earning a pin at 285-pounds in just 19 seconds.

Against Ouachita Baptist (0-3), Darling opened things with a tech fall victory at 125 while Fishback, Becker, and Johnson all earned consecutive pins at their respective weight classes. Fishback needed just 29 seconds to pacify Jacob Sherill at 165-pounds with Becker disposing of Alex Pollock in 2:46. Johnson retired O'Dell Lee in 4:08 for the Rangers third straight pin. Halverson notched a major decision victory while Sheppard, Yattoni, and 197-pounder Josh Anthony all claimed wins by decision. Her collected a victory by forfeit as the Rangers surrendered just one weight class against the Tigers.

In the nightcap, Johnson and Halverson both tallied pins, finishing off the Lions' (4-1) Kyle Summers and Jacob Borgmeyer in 5:45 and 2:11, respectively. Darling, Sheppard, Yattoni, Fishback, Becker, and Anthony all rolled to victories by decision as the Rangers closed the tournament having lost just three of the 30 matches contested.

UW-Parkside returns to the mat on Saturday, Jan. 16, hosting the Ranger Duals.
