(Jan. 7, 2016)-- Tara Knapstein netted a game-high 19 points off the bench, powering the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball squad to a 62-53 victory over Missouri University S&T in a Great Lakes Valley Conference interdivisional clash on Thursday night inside DeSimone Gymnasium.

The two squads traded buckets in the opening minutes of the contest before the Rangers (8-4, 2-2 GLVC) rattled off nine in a row to seize a 13-6 edge with 4:14 remaining in the opening period. The visiting Miners (5-6, 1-3 GLVC) pulled within a point at 15-14 but Knapstein nailed a three with four ticks left as UW-Parkside enjoyed an 18-14 edge after 10 minutes of action.

The Ranger lead ballooned to eight on a
Jessica Prince jumper early in the second period but Missouri S&T clawed back into the contest, pulling within a possession at 24-22 with 3:25 left before halftime. UW-Parkside received a jumper from
Stephanie Furr and a three from Knapstein to reestablish a seven-point buffer and enjoyed a 29-25 edge at the intermission.

Parkside's lead was a tenuous three points with 5:59 left in the third before closing the period on a 13-3 run, owning a 47-34 lead after three periods. The Green and White owned at least a nine-point buffer the entire fourth period to secure the squad's second win of conference play.

Knapstein came off the bench and hit eight of her 11 shots from the field, piling on 19 points while also securing six rebounds.
Kristin Conniff added 11 points while Prince and
Brittney Fair each added 10. Prince additionally snagged a team-best seven boards while Fair tallied three steals.

Bria Pierce was S&T's top offensive weapon, scoring 16 points with 10 rebounds while Jamy Douvier chipped in 10 points.

UW-Parkside owned a 22-14 edge in points in the paint while benefitting from a 37-18 discrepancy in bench production.

The Rangers return to the hardwood on Saturday evening, squaring off against national-ranked Drury University at 5 p.m.
