LIBERTY, Mo. (Apr. 19, 2015)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball squad surrendered a four-run lead in the opener and dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Great Lakes Valley Conference rival William Jewell College on Sunday at the Spratt Complex, falling 12-5 in game one and 8-2 in the nightcap in suburban Kansas City.

The visiting Rangers (6-31, 1-21 GLVC) surged to an early 4-0 lead in the opener, pushing across a pair of scores in both the second and third innings. Courtney Ellingson got things started for the Green and White in the second, leading off the frame with a single before Carly Dundee blasted a home run for the 2-0 edge. UW-Parkside doubled its advantage the next inning with Ellingson belting a two-run home run to score Kalli Gosser who reached base on a two-out base hit.

The host Cardinals (25-20, 12-14 GLVC) came alive in the bottom of the third, pushing across three runs before tying the game in the fourth. William Jewell seized the lead with a two-run home run by Nona Pauline in the fifth inning for the 6-4 lead but the Rangers' reduced the gap to just one run after a Therese Jender fielder's choice scored Gosser in the top of the sixth. Jewell responded with a knockout blow in the bottom of the frame, bringing in six runs to conclude the scoring in game one.

Ellingson led the Rangers at the plate, helping her own cause with a three-for-three day, driving in two runs and scoring two more while Gosser and Dundee each finished with a pair of hits.

In the circle, Ellingson was tagged with the loss, striking out three in the complete game effort while WJC's Shelby McGraw notched the win, tossing six innings and striking out eight.

In game two a five-run outburst by the Cardinals doomed the Rangers in the 8-2 setback. WJC plated five runs in the third inning and pushed across a single score in the fourth, enjoying a 6-0 advantage midway through the contest. Parkside got on the board in the fifth inning with Dundee blasting her second home run of the afternoon. The Cardinals collected two more runs in the sixth for an 8-1 lead heading into the final inning of action. A Dundee sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh brought in Gosser for Parkside's second run of the game but the Rangers were unable to come any closer, stranding two on base after a groundout ended the game.

UW-Parkside ended the late game with six base hits, each coming from a different student-athlete.

Dundee absorbed the loss in game two, pitching the opening three innings while Amber Ramos handled the final three, combining for four strikeouts. Jewell's Pauline earned the win, striking out 10 in the complete game effort.

Parkside closes out the road swing on Monday afternoon, taking on Rockhurst University in a twinbill getting underway at 12 p.m.
