Mecko Strikes Twice as Rangers Blank Golden Eagles

SOMERS, Wis. (Sept. 7, 2014)-- Karley Mecko tallied a pair of goals, helping the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team close out its non-conference slate with a 4-0 whitewash of the University of Charleston on Sunday at Wood Road Field.
 
Mecko opened the scoring in the eighth minute, scoring off a corner kick served in by Niekie Pellens. The Rangers (2-0) owned a 1-0 advantage at the break, holding a 17-1 edge in shots, including all eight on frame.
 
Emily Konior doubled Parkside's lead in the 47th minute, burying a free-kick from just outside the box. Taylor Schiffer-Jander bumped the Ranger edge to 3-0 with a strike in the 57th minute with Jenna Brzeski earning the assist before Mecko tallied her second score of the afternoon in the 58th minute with Brzeski and Pellens earning assists.
 
The Ranger defense stymied the Golden Eagles (0-1-1) all afternoon, limiting the visitors to just three total shots and only one shot on frame. Goalkeeper Mallory Geurts logged her second consecutive shutout, making one save in 90 minutes of work.
 
UW-Parkside rifled off 36 shots in the contest, including 20 on goal. The Rangers continue their homestand on Friday, opening up Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 3:30 p.m. game against Missouri University S&T.
