SOMERS, Wis. (Sept. 4, 2014)-- A first half scoring frenzy was more than enough for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team on Thursday afternoon, opening the lid on its 2014 campaign with a 6-0 victory over non-conference foe University of Saint Francis at Wood Road Field. Antonio Gonzalez stole the show, netting a hat-trick while also notching an assist in the shutout victory.

Gonzalez opened the scoring in the 11th minute, finding the back of the net off a feed from Elliott Schultz. The Rangers' (1-0) advantage was doubled just 10 minutes later with Gonzalez scoring off a Nemanja Medic assist. Medic added a score of his own in the 24th minute with Schultz and Evan Garcia both netting assists before Abraham Kanneh upped the UW-Parkside lead to 4-0 with a goal in the 26th minute off a Gonzalez pass.

The Rangers enjoyed a 4-0 lead at the break, outshooting the Fighting Saints (0-3) by a 17-2 margin.

Schultz scored in the 62nd minute off a Ryan Shogren pass before Gonzalez completed the hat-trick 22 seconds later off a Jorge Ontiveros pass to conclude the scoring.

Marcos Perez and Remi Bibal combined for the shutout in goal as the stout Parkside defense allowed just four shots all game and none on goal. It was a busy day for Saints keeper Brian Vasquez, making seven saves over the ninety minute game.

The Rangers return to the pitch on Sunday, hosting Robert Morris University-Lake County in a non-conference game beginning at 3 p.m.
