SOMERS, Wis. (May 4, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball squad earned a doubleheader split on Sunday to finish out the regular season, falling 4-1 in the opener before pummeling Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division rival McKendree University 13-3 in a mercy-rule shortened game two at Oberbruner Field.

The visiting Bearcats (21-29, 13-23 GLVC) seized an early lead in game one, pounding out four hits in the first inning, scoring a pair of runs for the 2-0 edge.

Zach Thompson got the Rangers (15-29, 13-23 GLVC) on the board in the fourth inning, singling to center field to score Kris Zarek, cutting the McKendree lead to just one run at 2-1.

McKendree utilized a bases loaded walk in the sixth inning to up its advantage to 3-1 before Jake Kline homered in the seventh for the final 4-1 tally.

ERic DuCharme led the Rangers at the dish with a two-for-four effort as seven Parkside players notched a hit in the opener.

Josh Serio suffered the loss, allowing three runs in six innings of action, striking out one. McKendree's Josh Tonozzi tallied the win, allowing one run in six innings of work while Jon Trampe netted the save, striking out one in one inning of action.

In game two, the Ranger blasted 17 hits, claiming a mercy rule win to close the season and salvage a Sunday split.

After a scoreless opening inning, UW-Parkside got things started in the bottom of the second, pushing across a pair of runs. Andrew Mott belted a ground-rule double to left field, scoring Derek Tuttle before a Patrick Cottrell fielder's choice scored Mott.

The Bearcats tied the game in the third before the Rangers exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third.

Derek Tuttle initiated the binge, driving in Jake Kolasinski on a double to left field before Zach Cunningham plated two on a double down the left field line. Cunningham claimed the inning's fourth run, scoring on a wild pitch while a Ryan Ruediger single scored Nick Janssen for the 7-2 lead.

UW-Parkside continued to pile on the runs, netting two runs in the fourth inning on a Cunningham double while a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth gave visiting McKendree its third run of the contest.

Kolasinski drove in two runs in the fifth with a double to center field, eventually scoring on a wild pitch, upping the Ranger lead to 12-3.

DuCharme led off the seven with a base hit through the left side before scoring the decisive run on a Conner Dean double, enacting the mercy rule with one out and giving Parkside the 13-3 win.

Nine Rangers collected hits on the day, highlighted by Zach Cunningham's four-for-four performance with four RBIs. DuCharme was three-for-four, scoring three runs while Ruediger, Kolasinski and Tuttle each finished with two hits. Senior pitcher Christian Cardenas made his only collegiate appearance at the plate in the sixth inning, reaching base by drawing a walk.

Matt Stuart went the distance on the mound, collecting his first career win by striking out four and allowing just six hits. McKendree's Jacob Renfrow suffered the loss, lasting just 2 1/3 innings and allowing six earned runs.
