RENSSELAER, Ind. (Apr. 6, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team fell 3-2 in extra innings to host Saint Joseph's College before suffering a 10-2 setback in game two as the two Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division clubs wrapped up their weekend series on Sunday afternoon at Gil Hodges Field.

In the opener, both team scratched across a run in the first inning before going silent offensively the next six innings, forcing extras. Nick Janssen led off the game by reaching base on an error, later scoring after another error allowed Eric DuCharme to reach base with two outs. The Pumas (13-18, 6-10 GLVC) responded with a run of their own before the teams traded zeros on the scoreboard for the next seven innings.

UW-Parkside (7-18, 5-11 GLVC) seized the lead in the ninth, breaking up the scoring slumber with an RBI single by Andrew Mott, plating DuCharme who led off the inning with a base hit. The Rangers owned a 2-1 edge heading into the bottom of the frame but a RBI single tied the game before a wild pitch with one out brought in the winning score for SJC, giving the hosts the 3-2 victory.

Offensively it was Juan Bowers leading the way for UW-Parkside with a two-for-four performance.

Mario Samuel struck out seven and allowed just three earned runs in 8 1/3 innings, suffering the loss while Brett Maus went the distance for SJC, striking out six to earn the complete game win.

In game two, the host Pumas plated the opening seven runs of the game and never looked back, cruising to the 10-2 win to sweep the series. Saint Joseph's scored four runs in the second inning before adding three more in the bottom of the fourth. Parkside pushed across a pair in the fifth but the Pumas answered with three more in the bottom of the frame to conclude the scoring.

DuCharme and Bowers each finished with an RBI while DuCharme was two-for-three at the dish.

Joseph Plaud was tagged with the defeat on the mound, pitching three innings and yielding three earned runs while SJC's Jake Harper claimed the win, striking out six in six innings of action.

The Rangers are back on the diamond on Saturday, Apr. 12, taking on GLVC East rival University of Southern Indiana.
