RENSSELAER, Ind. (Apr. 5, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball squad dropped both ends of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, stumbling 12-5 and 3-1 to East Division rival Saint Joseph's College at Gil Hodges Field.

In the opener, it was a six run third inning that tipped the scales in favor of the Pumas (11-19, 7-10 GLVC) in the 12-5 win. After 2 1/2 scoreless innings, it was six hits and an error that gave SJC the 6-0 edge. The Rangers (7-16, 5-11 GLVC) answered with four runs in the fourth inning but was nearly matched by St. Joseph's in the bottom half of the inning with three more for the 9-4 advantage.

UW-Parkside scratched across its first run on an error, with Jake Kolasinski scoring before a Derek Tuttle double down the left field line plated a pair of runs. A Ryan Ruediger groundout pushed across the final run of the frame, closing the gap to 6-4.

The Rangers scored another run in the fifth courtesy of a Eric DuCharme base knock while SJC tacked on an insurance run in the seventh and two more in the eighth to conclude the scoring.

DuCharme led the Rangers at the plate with a two-for-four effort.

Josh Serio was saddled with the loss, striking out four and yielding nine runs in 3 1/3 innings of work. Matt Stuart allowed just one unearned run in three innings of relief while Col Grenier yielded two runs over the final 1 2/3 innings of play. SJC's Jordan Peterson tallied the win, tossing the opening five innings and striking out six.

In game two, the Rangers outhit the hosts by a 7-5 margin but were unable to match the Pumas' run production, falling 3-1.

A leadoff walk to start the bottom of the first set the stage for the game's opening run before the Rangers equalized the score with a run in the top of the second. Juan Bowers belted a one out single, later scoring on a outfield single by Patrick Cottrell. St. Joseph's scored the go-ahead run in the fourth while adding an extra run in the sixth to conclude the day's scoring.

Cottrell powered Parkside at the plate in game two, finishing two-for-three with an RBI.

Cole Kroncke absorbed the defeat, tossing a complete game and striking out two. Brian Bayliss Jr. tallied the complete game win, fanning 11 batters and issuing just two walks.

The Rangers and Pumas continue their series tomorrow with a doubleheader getting underway at 12 p.m.
