LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Apr. 26, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside squad fell 3-0 to Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division rival Bellarmine University in the opener before suffering a heartbreaking 4-3 setback in the nightcap as the hosts hit a walk-off home run to secure the win and doubleheader sweep on Saturday at Knights Field.

In game one, Bellarmine (18-26, 9-21 GLVC) utilized a groundout to plate a run in the first inning before pushing across single runs in both the third and sixth innings. A muffed throw in the third allowed the game's second run to cross the plate while a double to left field plated the third and final run in the sixth inning.

John Perez suffered the loss, striking out one in three innings of action before giving way to Matt Stuart. Stuart tossed the final five innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run. The Knights' Curtis McCombs earned the complete game victory, striking out six and allowing just three hits in the shutout.

UW-Parkside (12-26, 10-20 GLVC) struck first in the nightcap, plating a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Kris Zarek drove in the opening run on a single up the middle, scoring Ryan Ruediger who reached on a fielder's choice. Trent Muscat drove in the inning's second score, plating Nick Janssen. Parkside loaded the bases with a base on balls and a Zach Cunningham infield single but a groundout ended the inning prematurely with the Rangers' only owning a 2-0 lead.

Bellarmine got on the board in the fifth before tying the game in the sixth inning. UW-Parkside reclaimed its advantage in the top of the seventh as DJ Peltz doubled to right center field, scoring pinch runner Patrick Cottrell for the 3-2 lead. The Knights answered in the bottom of the seventh generating a run on a wild pitch with two outs before an Austin Crutcher solo shot broke the tie and ended the contest 3-2 in favor of host Bellarmine.

The Rangers outhit the Knights 11-9 in game two but stranded nine runners on base. Jake Kolasinski, Peltz, Ruediger and Zarek all finished with a pair of hits to lead Parkside at the plate.

Cole Kroncke pitched the opening five innings, allowing two earned runs before giving way to Joseph Plaud. Plaud suffered the loss, striking out one and allowing three hits over the final 1 2/3 innings. Ryan Dixon faced just one batter and etched the win for BU, tossing in relief of Evan McNair who handled the first 6 2/3 innings and struck out three.

The Rangers and Knights return to the diamond tomorrow at 12 p.m. (Eastern Time).
