Eric DuCharme walkoff single gave the Rangers the 3-2 win in game two at Oberbruner Field.
The Rangers (12-24, 10-18 GLVC) opened the day with two runs in the first inning with a
Jake Kolasinski sacrifice fly scoring
Zach Cunningham before
DJ Peltz drove in DuCharme for the early 2-0 advantage. UW-Parkside tacked on another run in the second with
Zach Thompson singling in
Juan Bowers.
The Flyers (20-21, 12-15 GLVC) got on the board in the fifth inning with a pair of scores before the Rangers blew the game open with four runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
In the sixth, a Kolasinski single followed by walks from Peltz and
Ryan Ruediger loaded the bases before
Derek Tuttle lifted the ball past the left field fence for a grand slam. A throwing error plated Cunningham in the seventh while Ruediger had an RBI single while Tuttle belted his second home run of the game, plating a pair for the final 11-3 count.
Tuttle finished two-for-four at the plate with six RBIs to lead the Ranger offense while DuCharme and Kolasinski both added a pair of hits.
Mario Samuel claimed the win, striking out three in seven innings of work before giving way to
Joseph Plaud. Plaud handled the final two inning, fanning four of the eight batters he faced. Lewis's Nick Davito suffered the loss, yielding seven earned runs and issuing five walks in six innings of action.
In game two, DuCharme emerged as the hero, belting a walkoff single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to plate
Zach Thompson. The Rangers trailed 2-1 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh before
Nick Janssen started the rally with a base hit.
Zach Thompson followed suit with an infield single before Cunningham singled through the left side to plate Janssen and tie the game. DuCharme singled to left field allowing Thompson to touch home for the decisive score and secure the doubleheader sweep.
The Rangers struck first, plating a run on an error in the third inning. Lewis seized the lead in the sixth inning with Ben Albano blasting a two-run home run.
Thompson and Ruediger led the Rangers at the plate in game two, both finishing two-for-four at the dish.
Josh Serio went the distance in game two, claiming the complete game win by striking out seven and allowing just five hits. The Flyers' Kendall Paluch was tagged with the loss, allowing two earned runs and striking out six.
The Rangers return to the diamond on Saturday, heading south to Louisville, Ky., for a four-game set against GLVC East rival Bellarmine University.
