SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Apr. 18, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball squad earned a doubleheader split against host and Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division rival University of Illinois Springfield on Friday, falling 3-1 in the opener before seizing game two 6-2.

The Prairie Stars (21-17, 13-13 GLVC) struck first in the opener, netting a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth. UW-Parkside (9-22, 7-17 GLVC) leveled the score in the sixth inning with a Jake Kolasinski single plating Eric DuCharme, who led off the frame with a double to right field.

Illinois Springfield reclaimed the lead in the sixth on a double down the left field line before tacking on an insurance score in the seventh to conclude the scoring.

DuCharme, Kolasinski and DJ Peltz each finished two-for-four at the plate to lead the offensive charge for the Rangers.

John Perez was hit with the loss on the mound, pitching 6 1/3 innings, striking out two and allowing two earned runs. Matt Stuart handled the final 1 2/3 innings, yielding two hits and allowing no runs. David Mead claimed the complete game win, striking out five and allowing six hits.

In game two, the Ranger methodically scored runs, piling on four in a two-inning stretch for the 6-2 win to salvage a doubleheader split.

UW-Parkside opened the scoring in the second inning with Ryan Ruediger blasting a one-out double to score Kolasinski. Ruediger's bat plated another score in the fourth with a groundout scoring Kolasinski before a throwing error scored Nick Janssen. Janssen reached base on a single to center field before stealing both second and third bases.

Ruediger continued to damage the UIS pitching staff, doubling in two more runs in the fifth inning as the Rangers staked a 5-0 lead. Eric DuCharme scored an insurance run in the seventh while UIS plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh to conclude the scoring.

Kolasinski finished a perfect four-for-four at the plate, scoring a trio of runs while Ruediger was three-for-four with four RBIs.

Cole Kroncke earned the complete game win, striking out two while issuing just one walk.

The Rangers and Prairie Stars conclude their series tomorrow with a twinbill slated to get underway at 12 p.m.
