ROLLA, Mo. (Mar. 9, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team concluded its series with Missouri University S&T on Sunday, earning a doubleheader split. The Rangers fell 2-1 in the opener before pounding the host Miners 9-2 in game two.

It was a pitching duel in the opener with the Rangers' Josh Serio tossing a no hitter through the first three innings. Missouri S&T (5-8) opened the scoring in the fourth, utilizing a leadoff double and a pair of singles to scratch across two runs. UW-Parkside (2-5) countered with a run of its own in the fifth to conclude the scoring in the seven inning affair.

Nick Janssen led off the fifth with a double to left center field before stealing third. Janssen eventually touched home for Parkside's lone run on a Zach Cunningham infield single.

Cunningham led the Rangers offense, finishing two-for-four with an RBI. UW-Parkside outhit the Miners 6-5 in the game.

Serio absorbed the loss, striking out six and issuing no walks in the complete game effort. His counterpart Eric Van Dyke tallied the win, tossing six innings and fanning six batters while Reed Brown earned the save with a three-up, three-down, seventh inning.

In the nightcap, it was a five-run outburst in the fifth inning that paved the way for the Rangers 9-2 win, finishing the weekend having won two of the three games played.

Cunningham led off the game with a triple down the right field line before scoring the next at bat courtesy of a Zach Thompson sacrifice fly. S&T tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth but Parkside struck back, piling on five runs off six hits in the fifth.

Cunningham doubled in Patrick Cottrell, who led off the inning with a base hit. Thompson drew a walk before a Jake Kolasinski single plated Cunningham. Juan Bowers cleared the bases with a triple before Eric DuCharme belted in Bowers, giving the visiting Rangers the 6-1 advantage.

The Miners plated a run in the fifth but the Rangers added an insurance run in the seventh before betting two more in the top of the ninth.

The Rangers thrived at the plate in the nightcap, accruing 11 hits with Juan Bowers leading the way, finishing two-for-four with four RBIs. Kolasinski was two-for-four with a pair of RBIs while DuCharme and Cunningham each finished with a pair of hits.

John Perez earned the complete game win, striking out three and yielding just one earned run while S&T's Kyle Robertson suffered the loss, allowing six earned runs in 4 2/3 innings.

The Rangers return to Missouri next weekend, officially opening Great Lakes Valley Conference play against Truman State University.
