INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Mar. 31, 2014)-- For the second straight day it was a doubleheader split for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team. Mario Samuel tossed a one-hitter in the opener as the Rangers downed host University of Indianapolis 2-0 before suffering the wrath of the Greyhounds in game two with a 12-2 defeat to close out the Great Lakes Valley Conference series on Monday at Greyhound Park.

Mario Samuel pitched a gem in the opener, notching the complete game shutout. Samuel struck out three and allowed just one hit in seven innings or work, earning his third victory on the mound.

Both of UW-Parkside's runs came in the bottom of the third inning. Zach Cunningham led off the frame with a double to left center field while Ryan Ruediger reached base safely by drawing a walk the next at-bat. Back to back errors allowed both Cunningham and Ruediger to score in what turned out to be the only runs of the game.

UW-Parkside outhit the Greyhounds 7-1 in the game with Derek Tuttle finishing two-for-three at the plate.

UIndy's Evan Eyer was saddled with the loss on the mound, striking out five and allowing two runs in six innings of action.

In the nightcap, it was an eight-run outburst in the top of the third inning that ultimately derailed UW-Parkside. UIndy plated two runs in the first before the Rangers countered with a run in the bottom of the frame. A Derek Tuttle sacrifice fly provided the Ranger run, scoring Cunningham who reached base on a single through the left side. UIndy added eight in the third inning and one more in the fifth for the 11-1 advantage.

Ruediger belted in Andrew Mott in the seventh but Parkside was unable to come any closer. UIndy added an insurance run in the top of the ninth en route to the 12-2 win.

Conner Dean headlined the Ranger offense, finishing two-for-two in the nightcap. The Rangers collected nine hits in the second game but stranded six runners on base.

Christian Cardenas suffered the loss on the mound for the Rangers while UIndy's Aaron Gregory secured the win. Gregory lasted seven innings and struck out six.

The Rangers return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon, traveling to Romeoville, Ill., for a GLVC twinbill against Lewis University. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
