SAINT LOUIS, Mo. (Mar. 23, 2014)-- Cole Kroncke tossed a complete-game shutout in game one, guiding the University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball squad to a 6-0 victory over Great Lakes Valley Conference rival University of Missouri-Saint Louis before falling 7-1 in game two to finish Sunday with a doubleheader split.
The Rangers (4-11, 2-6 GLVC) drew first blood in the opener, pushing across a run in the bottom of the second inning.
Juan Bowers led off the frame by drawing a walk, later scoring off a wild pitch.
UW-Parkside piled on four more runs the next inning, seizing a 5-0 advantage after three innings.
Nick Janssen led things off with a walk, eventually scoring on a wild pitch, boosting the Ranger edge to 2-0.
Eric DuCharme blasted a two RBI double to right field, scoring Bowers and
Jake Kolasinski while a
Kris Zarek fielder's choice plated DuCharme for the 5-0 lead.
Parkside tacked on an insurance run in the sixth with an
Andrew Mott single to left field scoring Zarek. Thompson paced the Ranger offense, finishing three-for-three from the plate while Kolasinski was two-for-four.
Kroncke picked up the complete game victory on the mound, tossing all seven innings, allowing just three hits and yielding no runs. UMSL's Zach Sedlacek suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs and striking out five in 2 1/3 innings of action.
The Rangers seized a 1-0 lead after one inning in game two, with a DuCharme RBI single plating Kolasinski with two outs. The Tritons (6-8, 4-4 GLVC) stole the lead in the top of the seventh, plating a pair of runs before piling on five in the eighth inning to secure a 7-1 buffer and conclude the scoring.
DuCharme led the Rangers in the nightcap, finishing two-for-four at the plate.
John Perez suffered the loss, striking out five in seven innings of action. UMSL's Alan Frank tossed the final 4 1/3 innings in relief to tally the win, striking out four and allowing just one hit.
UW-Parkside returns to the diamond on Saturday, Mar. 29, opening up divisional play against GLVC East Division nemesis University of Indianapolis.
