SAINT LOUIS, Mo. (Mar. 22, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday to host University of Missouri-Saint Louis in a Great Lakes Valley Conference twinbill. The Tritons grinded out a 1-0 win in the opener before downing the Rangers 5-1 in game two.

In a game with just one run it was the host Tritons (5-8, 3-3 GLVC) collecting the lone score, utilizing a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to secure the 1-0 win in game one.

Parkside's (3-10, 1-5 GLVC) Josh Serio suffered the loss on the mound, tossing all nine innings and allowing just three hits while striking out four and issuing one walk.

In the nightcap, it was a four run outburst in the third inning that paved the way for the Tritons' 5-1 victory to secure the Saturday sweep.

UMSL opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first before adding four in the third for the 5-0 edge. Zach Thompson collected UW-Parkside's lone score in the bottom of the third, reaching base after getting hit by pitch. Thompson advanced to second on a groundout, claimed third on a Juan Bowers single before scoring an unearned run courtesy of an UMSL error with two outs.

Mario Samuel logged the loss on the bump, going 4 2/3 innings and yielding five runs while fanning four batters. Joseph Plaud tossed the final 2 1/3 innings, allowing just one hit while striking out two.

The Rangers and Tritons close out the series on Sunday with a twinbill beginning at 12 p.m.
