MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Feb. 22, 2014)-- Second inning woes continued to sabotage the University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team for the second consecutive day, falling 22-4 and 11-2 to host Barry University on Saturday at Feinbloom Field.

The host Buccaneers (11-2) struck first in the opener, plating a run in the bottom of the first inning. The Rangers (0-3) responded and seized the lead in the top of the second, scoring a trio of runs.

Conner Dean got things started with an RBI single, scoring Juan Bowers, who reached base on a single down the right field line. A base on balls and a hit by pitch loaded the bases before Zach Thompson drew a walk to score Dean. Kris Zarek upped the UW-Parkside advantage to 3-1, scoring on a wild pitch before the Buccaneers induced a groundout to end the frame.

Barry countered with a 12 run explosion in the bottom of the second, collecting nine hits and taking advantage of three hit batters to secure the 10-run buffer.

The Buccaneers pushed across four runs in the third, one in the fourth and a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.

The Rangers tallied a run in the sixth, with a Shaun Lena walk scoring Zach Cunningham. Cunningham reached base on a fielders' choice, advancing to second on a Thompson single. The center fielder advanced to third on a fielders' choice before a hit by pitch loaded the bases setting the stage for the Lena RBI walk.

Bowers led the Rangers offense, finishing two-for-three at the plate.

UW-Parkside's John Perez was saddled with the loss, yielding 12 runs in 1 1/3 innings of work. Barry's Jesse Montalto earned the win on the mound, striking out four in 4 1/3 innings of action.

In the nightcap, Barry piled on 10 runs in the opening two innings to cruise to the 11-2 win.

The Buccaneers netted four runs in the bottom of the first before adding six more in the second. A Thompson RBI single to right field scored Lena to get the Rangers on the board in the third inning.

Eric DuCharme scratched across the Rangers' second score of the game in the fifth, belting a single through the left side to score Cunningham.

Barry countered with a run of its own in the fifth to conclude the scoring.

Mario Samuel tossed a complete game for the Rangers, striking out three while the Buccaneers' Adrian Benitez claimed the win, fanning seven in seven innings of work.

The Rangers and Buccaneers close out their series on Sunday with first pitch slated for 12 p.m. (Eastern Time).
