SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Feb. 13, 2014)-- Despite 20 points from
Tara Knapstein, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team was unable to hang with ninth-ranked Drury University on Thursday night in a Great Lakes Valley Conference clash, suffering a 77-56 setback inside the O'Reilly Event Center.
The Rangers (7-15, 3-11 GLVC) were unable to match the Panthers (20-2, 12-2 GLVC) in the paint as the hosts owned a 46-26 rebounding edge and a 36-18 advantage in points in the paint.
The opening 20 minutes witnessed six lead changes and four ties as Drury secured a 38-28 at the halftime intermission. UW-Parkside tallied its first lead of the night off a Knapstein three, giving the visitors the 7-6 lead with 16:45 left. Neither team led by more than four points until the final two minutes of action as the Panthers utilized an 11-2 spurt to conclude the half, seizing the 10-point buffer at the break.
Drury maintained at least a nine-point buffer the entire second half en route to the 21-point decision.
Knapstein matched a season-high with 20 points while grabbing five steals in just 25 minutes of play, missing the final 7:54 of the game after fouling out.
Danielle Slivka tallied nine points and six assists while
Gaby Bronson collected seven points and five rebounds.
Amber Dvorak led Drury with 18 points and 14 rebounds with eight of her boards coming on the offensive end. Sanayika Shields dropped 12 points while Shelby White and Annie Armstrong added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Rangers return to the court on Saturday afternoon, heading to Rolla, Mo., to close out the road trip against Missouri University S&T at 1 p.m.
