(Nov. 9, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team was unable to slay its second Division I opponent of the exhibition slate on Sunday afternoon, stumbling 78-47 to Northwestern University inside Welsh-Ryan Arena in the Rangers' final tune-up for the regular season.
Gaby Bronson scored the first two buckets of the day for UW-Parkside as the Rangers trailed 5-4 early in the contest. The Wildcats countered over the next four minutes, utilizing a 13-2 run to build a double-digit buffer. The Big Ten Conference squad maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the half, enjoying a 42-23 advantage at the halftime break. Northwestern maintained a comfortable lead the entire second half, cruising to the exhibition win.
Tara Knapstein led the Ranger scoring attack with 10 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Kristin Conniff added nine points off the bench while
Jessica Prince and
Stephanie Furr added eight and seven points, respectively. Nia Coffey led Northwestern with 14 points and 11 boards while Lauren Douglas chipped in 11 points.
The Wildcats generated 19 Ranger turnovers and owned a 29-3 edge in points off turnovers.
Parkside began its exhibition slate eight days ago at Valparaiso University where the visiting Rangers shocked the Division I Crusaders 69-52.
UW-Parkside opens the regular season on Friday, taking on host Minnesota State University-Moorhead at 6 p.m.
