Women's Basketball Trounces Timberwolves 71-52

MIDLAND, Mich. (Nov. 30, 2014)-- Three Rangers finished in double figures as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball squad dominated host Northwood University 71-52 on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference clash inside the Bennett Center. Stephanie Furr paced the Rangers with a career-high 22 points while Jessica Prince netted a double-double.

The visiting Rangers (5-1) held a 6-4 lead four minutes into the game off a Gaby Bronson jumper before the host Timberwolves (2-2) collected 12 of the next 14 points to secure a 16-8 advantage with 12:18 left in the opening stanza. UW-Parkside cut the deficit to just four but back-to-back Northwood layups extended its advantage back up to eight points with 10:42 left in the first half.

The Rangers answered Northwood with 14 straight points to grab a six-point lead. The Ranger run was bookended by threes from both Furr and Maddie Johnston. The Timberwolves tied the game at 28-28 with 1:40 left before halftime but a Sarah Mlachnik jumper and a pair of free throws from Justine Boerger gave Parkside a 32-28 halftime lead.

UW-Parkside scored the opening bucket of the second half but Northwood pulled within a point at 36-35 with 18:19 left off a Gabrielle Rivette three. The Green and White scored the next 13 points to stake a 14-point buffer with 11:50 left in the contest. Parkside owned a comfortable double digit lead the rest of the way en route to the 19-point win.

Furr sunk all seven of her shots in the opening half, ending the game with 22 points while shooting 10-for-13 from the floor. Prince came off the bench and collected a double-double in just 19 minutes of action, scoring 11 points with a game-high 11 rebounds. Bronson was the third Ranger in double figures, pouring on 14 points along with six rebounds and six assists.

Kaitlin Susan paced Northwood with 10 points and seven rebounds while Rivette added nine points.

UW-Parkside shot 50 percent (29-for-58) from the floor while limiting Northwood to shooting just 38.6 percent (22-for-57) while outrebounding the hosts by a 40-29 margin.

The Rangers return to the court on Thursday afternoon, heading to Romeoville, Illinois to open up Great Lakes Valley Conference play against East Division nemesis Lewis University. Tipoff inside Neil Carey Arena is slated for 5:30 p.m.
