SOMERS, Wis. (Nov. 21, 2014)-- A goal seven minutes into overtime put the brakes on the third-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team's NCAA Division II Tournament run on Friday afternoon, falling 1-0 to 11th-ranked Grand Valley State University at Wood Road Field.

The loss was the Rangers (18-1-3) only blemish on a stellar season that saw the team win the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season and tournament championships while establishing a school record for shutouts (16) and matching a program record for wins in a season. With the victory, Grand Valley State (20-2-1) advances to the Elite Eight where they will face 10th-ranked University of Central Missouri on Sunday at 12 p.m. at Wood Road Field.

The Lakers' Kaely Schlosser emerged as the hero in overtime, netting the decisive score in the 97th minute. GVSU's Marti Corby served the ball into the box on a free kick with Gabriella Mencotti firing off a shot from point-blank range. UW-Parkside stymied the initial shot before Schlosser collected the rebound and punched the ball into the back of the net.

The Lakers owned a 5-4 edge in shots after 45 minutes of play, including three of the four taken on frame. In the second half, the Lakers owned a 5-1 edge in shots, including the only one taken on goal as the two squads went into overtime deadlocked 0-0 after 90 minutes of play.

Ranger goalkeeper Mallory Geurts tallied four saves on the afternoon while her counterpart, Andrea Strauss, nabbed the clean sheet, needing to make just one save on the day.

The game is the Rangers first setback at Wood Road Field since October 2012, snapping the team's unbeaten run at 24 games (21-0-3). The game capped off the stellar careers of seniors Kelsey Armour, Emily Konior, Karley Mecko and Ashley Meyer. Over the past four seasons UW-Parkside has made four trips to the NCAA Tournament, two Sweet 16 appearances while posting a 59-15-9 overall record and a mindboggling 35-2-6 mark at Wood Road Field.

Under the direction of Head Coach Troy Fabiano, the UW-Parkside women's soccer program has posted 16 consecutive winning campaigns, making five straight trips to the NCAA Tournament and eight overall.
