STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Nov. 19, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside wrestling team hit the mat for its first dual match of the season on Wednesday night, winning seven of the 10 weight classes contested en route to a 26-15 victory over host University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point inside Berg Gymnasium.

Ronzel Darling got things started for the Rangers (1-0) at 125-pounds, claiming a 13-3 major decision victory over UWSP's Ben Vosters. Joseph Her netted an 8-5 win at 133-pounds, giving UW-Parkside an early 7-0 lead. The Pointers (1-2) earned the win at 141 but the Rangers rolled to wins at the next four weight classes, straking a 20-3 lead.

Daniel Argueta won 4-1 at 149-pounds, Brandt Welcher squeaked out the 6-5 decision at 157 while Nick Fishback scored a 16-3 major decision win at 165-pounds. 174-pounder Brett Scoles took down UWSP's Cody Nielsen 6-3 to give the Rangers a 17-point buffer on the scoreboard. The Pointers pulled within striking distance with back-to-back pins, closing the gap to just five at 20-15 but Matt Halverson cemented the Parkside win with a pin over Luke Hoffmann in one minute, 48 seconds at the 285-pound weight class to conclude the dual.

The Rangers return to the mat on Saturday, traveling to Mequon, Wisconsin for the Concordia University Open.
