SOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 29, 2014)-- Mathew Yang netted the equalizer in the 83rd minute as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer squad closed out the 2014 season with a 1-1 double overtime draw against Lewis University on Wednesday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference showdown at Wood Road Field.

The visiting Flyers (10-4-3, 9-3-3 GLVC) drew first blood with Ivan Surlina scoring in the 32nd minute off a feed from Lenin Roa-Tapia. Lewis enjoyed a 1-0 lead at the break despite being outshot by a 7-5 margin through the opening 45 minutes of play. Yang tied the contest with seven minutes left in regulation, collecting a rebound off a shot from Antonio Gonzalez for his second goal of the year.

Neither squad was able to find the back of the net over the final three minutes of regulation and through both 10 minute overtime sessions, settling for the 1-1 draw.

The Rangers (9-7-2, 6-7-2) owned a 23-12 advantage in shots during the game, including an 8-6 edge in shots on frame.

Marcos Perez tallied five saves on the afternoon in 110 minutes of work while his counterpart Omar Ramirez, netted six saves.

The tie coupled with a 3-3 draw in the Bellarmine University-University of Southern Indiana game gives BU the eighth and final seed in the 2014 GLVC Tournament, as the Rangers finish a half-game behind the Knights in ninth place.

"I'm really proud of this team," said Head Coach Jason Zitzke. "We dug ourselves out of a hole multiple times this season and we never gave up."

Wednesday's contest was Senior Day as Marcos Perez, Edwin Gomez, Jorge Ontiveros, Jesus Oseguera, Ruben Torres and Sam Quinones were all honored in a pre-game ceremony for their hard work and dedication to the men's soccer program. The six seniors along with the rest of the squad helped the Rangers to their first winning campaign since 2009, when Rick Kilps' club finished 13-5-2 in his penultimate season as the head coach.
