DES MOINES, Iowa. (Jan. 11, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside wrestling team finished with a 1-2 record in day one of the annual Cliff Keen/NWCA National Duals on Saturday inside the Iowa Events Center. The Rangers fell 33-3 to top-ranked Notre Dame College and 38-3 to 15th-ranked Maryville University before closing the day with a 35-7 win over Truman State University.
Against the No. 1 ranked Falcons,
Josh Anthony claimed the lone victory for the Rangers (3-3), downing Carles Mason 12-6 in the 184-pound weight class. Against the No. 15 Saints, 133-pounder
Joseph Her claimed the lone UW-Parkside win, winning by decision 10-5 over Keygan Foster.
In the nightcap, UW-Parkside won eight of the 10 matches to roll the Bulldogs 35-7. Ronzel Darling won by tech fall at 125-pounds, securing the 19-4 decision while Her tallied his second win of the day, downing Rafael Lopez 9-4. Adam Yde claimed an 8-2 win at 141-pounds while Nick Fishback pinned Devon Fenstermaker in 1:17 at 165.
Montrail Johnson pinned Chase Wrisinger in 4:25 at 174 while Josh Anthony (184 pounds) and Blaine Conner (197 pounds) both won by decision. Jake Armellani needed just three minutes to record the Rangers' third pin of the match, prevailing over Ben Dudley.
UW-Parkside hosts the six-team Ranger Duals on Saturday inside DeSimone Gymnasium. Action is slated to get underway at 9 a.m.
