QUINCY, ILL. (Sept. 20, 2013)-- A pair of second half goals thwarted the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team on Friday night as the Rangers fell 3-2 to host Quincy University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Legends Stadium.
Quincy (4-2, 3-0 GLVC) opened the scoring in the fifth minute with Steve McAnany finding Ethan Venvertioh, giving the host Hawks the 1-0 edge.
UW-Parkside (2-2-1, 1-2 GLVC) tied the contest in the 43rd minute with Jorge Ontiveros tallying an unassisted goal, his second score of the season. The Rangers seized the lead in the 56th minute with Milan Filipovic scoring off an assist from Ryan Shogren.
The Hawks' tallied the equalizer in the 68th minute with Chris Garavaglia beating the Ranger goalkeeper on a corner kick before Steve McAnany collected the game-winner with an unassisted score in the 74th minute of play.
Goaltender Marcos Perez tallied six saves in the losing effort while his counterpart, Drew Duncan, allowed two goals and tallied three saves to earn the victory.
The Rangers return to the pitch on Sunday at 2:3 p.m., taking on GLVC newcomer Truman State University.
