Game Two Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Apr. 28, 2013)-- Despite early leads in both contests, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team was thwarted by host University of Indianapolis on Sunday, falling 6-2 and 5-2 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference twinbill at Greyhound Park.

Shane Hayes doubled in the first run of the day in the second inning of game one, giving the visiting Rangers the early 1-0 lead. The first basemen's double to left center scored Chris Glynn who reached base earlier in the frame on a base hit through the left side.

UIndy answered in the bottom of the second tying the game with a run of its own.

UW-Parkside surged ahead again in the third inning with a Eric DuCharme groundout bringing in Zach Cunningham who led off the inning with a single to left center field. UW-P's lead proved fleeting with the Greyhounds piling on two runs in the third inning to capture the lead before adding three runs in the sixth to secure the 6-2 win.

Cunningham led the Rangers at the plate, finishing two-for-three hitting in the leadoff spot.

Casey Doucette was saddled with the defeat on the mound, tossing five innings and allowing two earned runs while striking out three. UIndy's Josh Witt claimed the win, striking out four in the complete game effort.

Game two unfolded in a similar manner for the Rangers, grabbing an early lead before giving way to a late Greyhound scoring surge.

UW-Parkside wasted little time getting on the board in game two with Eric Abel singling in Cunningham in the first inning after Cunningham led off the game by reaching base on a UIndy error. Indianapolis knotted the score at one in the second inning with a sacrifice fly but the Rangers recaptured the lead in the fifth with Ben Korman batting in DuCharme on a fielder's choice.

UIndy once again leveled the score in the sixth, bringing across a run before securing the lead in the eighth inning with a three-run outburst.

UW-Parkside outhit the Greyhounds in game two, owning a 12-9 advantage with DuCharme finishing three-for-five at the plate while Derek Tuttle and Taylor Nehls each finished two-for-five.

Joseph Plaud suffered the game two setback on the bump, striking out seven and allowing five runs in 7 2/3 innings of action. Shane Hayes handled the final 1/3 inning, retiring the lone batter he faced. Aaron Gregory earned the win for UIndy, tossing two innings of relief, striking out four and allowing no runs while Hugo Lalonde collected the save, pitching the ninth inning.

After 30 games on the road, UW-Parkside hopes to open its home slate on Saturday, hosting Saint Joseph's College in a GLVC doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. at Oberbruner Field.
