INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Apr. 27, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team was unable to generate any runs on Saturday at Greyhound Park, falling 3-0 and 8-0 to host University of Indianapolis in a Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division twinbill.
The opener was a defensive struggle. The Rangers (3-25, 3-23 GLVC) conceded single runs in the opening three innings before clamping down the rest of the game, keeping the Greyhounds (22-17, 14-14 GLVC) off the scoreboard the final five innings.
Josh Hudnut went the distance for the second straight start, getting stuck with the loss despite striking out five and allowing three runs in eight innings of work. UIndy's Matt Pate claimed the win, striking out four in the complete game two-hitter.
UIndy seized an early advantage in game two with Jake Hartley belting a solo home run in the first inning. The Greyhounds added three more runs in the third before adding two in the fifth and two in the sixth to conclude the scoring.
Three of the Rangers' five hits in the nightcap came off the bat of
Ben Korman as the senior shortstop finished the contest a perfect three-for-three at the plate.
Josh Geiger suffered the loss, pitching all six innings and allowing just three earned runs. UIndy's Clint Seefeldt picked up the victory, fanning five in the complete game effort.
The Rangers and Greyhounds close out the weekend series on Sunday at 12 p.m.
