OWENSBORO, Ky. (Apr. 20, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team fell 6-1 and 12-8 to host Kentucky Wesleyan College on Saturday at Panther Park in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader.
In the opener, the Rangers (2-20, 2-18 GLVC) tallied the game's opening run with a

John Perszyk, who led off the bottom of the first with a single. UW-Parkside's advantage was short lived with KWC scoring three runs in the second inning. The host Panthers (13-25, 7-19 GLVC) added another run in the third and two more in the sixth for the 6-1 win.
On the mound,
Casey Doucette suffered the loss for UW-P, striking out six and allowing six runs in six innings of work. Kentucky Wesleyan's Jon Wandling earned the win, tossing the opening seven innings and striking out eight. Tim Steed picked up the save, handling the final two innings, retiring all six batters he faced, including four by strikeout.
In game two, the Rangers were unable to overcome an early 8-0 deficit, falling 12-8 to give the homestanding Panthers the doubleheader sweep.
KWC opened the scoring in the top of the second with a pair of runs before erupting for six runs in the third inning. The Rangers countered in the bottom of the third with
Eric Abel belting a two-run home run, plating Perszyk who tallied a two-out single.
The Panthers added two more runs in the fourth inning before UW-Parkside came alive with a five-run fifth inning to close within three.
A Perszyk single plated the frame's first run, scoring
Zach Cunningham who opened the inning with a base hit. Tuttle pushed across the Ranger's second run, singling in Zach O”Haver while
Eric DuCharme brought home Perszyk.
Eric Abel scored on a wild pitch while a
Chris Glynn sacrifice fly scored Tuttle, closing the score to 10-7.
KWC added two more runs in the top of the sixth while a Cunningham single scored Glynn in the bottom of the seventh in what turned out to be the final score of the day.
The Rangers pounded out 13 hits in game two with Cunningham leading the way, finishing three-for-four at the dish. Perszyk, Tuttle and DuCharme each collected a pair of hits while Abel drove in a pair of runs.
Alex Rejniak was hit with the loss, yielding four runs in 2 1/3 innings of action while striking out three. Kaleb Moore was credited with the win for the Panthers, striking out seven in five innings of action.
The two squads close out the weekend series on Sunday at 12 p.m.
