LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Mar. 29, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside was unable to contain Bellarmine University on Friday afternoon, falling 16-1 and 10-1 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader at Knights Field.
The Rangers (0-8, 0-6 GLVC) struck first in the opener, tallying a run in the bottom of the first inning.
Zach Cunningham got things started by drawing a two-out walk.
John Perszyk took one for the team, reaching base on a hit by pitch before
Ben Korman and
Andrew Mott drew walks to score Cunningham.
Bellarmine (10-9, 5-3 GLVC) answered in the top of the second, plating a pair of runs before extended the advantage to 4-1 with two more in the third inning. The Knights pushed across single runs in the fourth and fifth frames before piling on three runs in the sixth and seven in the top of the eighth.
Shane Hayes was tagged with the loss, striking out four and allowing 11 hits in eight innings of work. His counterpart, Curtis McCombs tallied the complete game one-hitter, striking out 10.
In game two a rocky start ultimately unhinged the Rangers, allowing nine runs in a two inning span and fallin 10-1.
Bellarmine opened the scoring with a run in the first inning before exploding for five runs in the second and four more in the third inning.
UW-Parkside contained the Knights the rest of the way but could not dig out of the early hole.

Eric Abel, who reached base on a single up the middle.
Cole Kroncke tossed 4 1/3 innings of scoreless ball for the Rangers in relief of
Joseph Plaud, striking out five and allowing just one hit. Phil Forbis earned the win on the mound for the Knights, striking out eight in the complete game effort.
The two squads meet again on the diamond on Saturday with first pitch slated for 12 p.m.
