ALLENDALE, Mich. (Feb. 9, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's track & field squad reaped the benefits of competing on an oversize track over the weekend with several athletes turning in season-best performances at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet on the 300-meter track inside the Kelly Family Sports Center.
Jessica Watychowicz hit the provisional qualifying standard in the 5,000-meter run to open the meet on Friday, crossing the tape in ninth in 17 minutes, 5.49 seconds.
On Saturday,
Curshonne Johnson tallied a pair of personal bests, winning her heat and placing 13th in the 200-meter dash (25.95) while cracking the 60-second barrier in the 400-meters for the first time this season. The freshman won her heat and placed 21st overall in 59.67.
Amanada Zittleman was fifth in the mile in a season best 5:10.92 while
Breanna Hopkins was 27th in the 200 (26.36) and 28th in the 400 (1:00.23),
In the field,
Charlotte Smith cleared four feet, 11 inches, finishing 19th in the high jump.
Rachel Bullis was 16th in the triple jump (33' 6") while Jade Barden made her debut in the event by placing 23rd (31' 4").
The two-day unscored meet featured 85 collegiate teams and over 1,700 athletes.
The Rangers are idle next weekend before returning to action on Feb. 23 for day one of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Championships held in Indianapolis.
