Rangers' Win Streak Snapped Against Panthers

OWENSBORO, Ky. (Feb. 7, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball squad saw its four-game win streak come to a close on Thursday night as host Kentucky Wesleyan College utilized scoring spurts to end the first half and start the second to pull away with the 69-57 victory in a Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division showdown inside the Owensboro Sportscenter.

The opening 15 minutes of play featured eight lead changes and five ties as the two sides traded jabs. Kiah Simon converted a layup with 7:27 remaining in the first half, giving the visiting Rangers (13-7, 7-5 GLVC) a 20-17 lead. The host Panthers (13-6, 9-3 GLVC) netted the next four points to reclaim the lead before a Jenna Endisch three-pointer returned the lead to UW-Parkside with 6:08 left in the opening stanza in what turned out to be their final lead of the night. KWC rattled off 15 of the next 17 points, enjoying an 11-point buffer with 1:45 left before taking a 36-27 lead into intermission.

The Rangers trailed by nine with 16:30 remaining in the second half before the Panthers mounted a 16-3 scoring binge to secure a 22-point edge with just over 10 minutes to play. UW-Parkside outscored Kentucky Wesleyan 23-13 over the final 10 minutes of play, including the final eight points of the game but the damage was already done, snapping UWP's four-game win streak.

Kiah Simon had another big game against the Panthers, posting a game-high 19 points to lead the Rangers. The senior's previous career-high came against KWC on Jan. 26, scoring 18 points in UWP's 67-57 victory. Sierra West chipped in 12 points while dishing out a seven assists while Jenna Endisch added eight points. Danielle Slivka led UW-Parkside on the boards, finishing with eight rebounds.

Biance Barton paced Kentucky Wesleyan with 13 points with Lauren Goffinet and Karly Rhoads adding 12 and 11 points, respectively. The Panthers' Kailyn Mitchell registered a game-high 10 rebounds.

UW-Parkside struggled from the field, hitting just 36.8 percent (21-for-57) including only 16.7 percent (three-for-18) from the perimeter while Kentucky Wesleyan shot 51.1 percent (23-for-45) from the floor and 45.5 percent (five-for-11) from beyond the arc.

UWP's four game win streak featured a pair of victories over Top 25 squads. The Rangers streak began on Jan. 24, taking down then No. 23 University of Southern Indiana 69-53 before rolling KWC 67-57 two days later. UW-Parkside blew out host Saint Joseph's College 62-38 on Jan. 31 before nipping then No. 19 University of Indianapolis 77-75 on Feb. 2.

The Rangers conclude their road trip on Saturday, heading to Evansville, Ind. to take on University of Southern Indiana with tipoff slated for 1 p.m.
