Women's Basketball 8th in Midwest Rankings

Complete Regional Rankings

SOMERS, Wis. (Feb. 20, 2013)-- The NCAA Division II basketball selection committee released its first installment of the regional rankings on Wednesday, with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball squad ranking eighth in the Midwest Region.

The Rangers (16-7 overall, 13-7 vs. Division II, 12-6 in-region) sit eighth in the debut rankings and are among five Great Lakes Valley Conference squads in the Midwest Region's Top 10. Ashland University (25-1, 23-1 in-region) claims the top position with Findlay University (18-4, 18-4 in-region) occupying the No. 2 position. Lewis University (16-5, 15-5 in-region) is the top ranking GLVC team at No. 3 followed by the University of Indianapolis (17-6, 14-6 in-region) at No. 5 and Kentucky Wesleyan College (13-6, 13-6 in-region) at No. 7. The University of Southern Indiana (15-6, 13-6 in-region) rounds out the rankings at No. 10.

UWP has won seven of its last eight games and owns a 4-3 record against ranked squads in the Midwest Region. The Rangers own a pair of wins against Southern Indiana, a victory against UIndy, while posting a 1-1 record against Kentucky Wesleyan. UW-Parkside dropped a game to both Lewis and No. 6 Michigan Tech University.

The regional rankings are utilized to select participants for the 64-team NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament which is slated to begin on March 16. 10 teams are ranked in each of the 10 regions of NCAA Division II. The top squad in each region earns the right to host the opening three rounds of the tournament.

UW-Parkside closes out its regular season home slate on Thursday, facing off against Saint Joseph's College at 5:30 p.m. inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
