SOMERS, Wis.. (Nov. 11, 2013)-- A 12-2 run midway through the second half tipped the scales in favor of the home side on Monday night as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team downed Upper Iowa University 65-55 in a non-conference battle at DeSimone Gymnasium. Gaby Bronson poured on 20 points to lead all scorers in a game featuring nine lead changes and five ties.

The game was knotted at 43 with just over 10 minutes remaining before the host Rangers (2-0) pieced together a 12-2 run to put the Peacocks (0-1) at arm's length. UW-Parkside led by at least eight points the rest of the way to tally the squad's second win in as many tries. Amber Bullock kickstarted the run with a three-pointer to break the deadlock before Maddie Johnston drained a three on the ensuing Ranger possession. Bullock was back at it on the next trip down the court, sinking another three before Tara Knapstein added a pair of free throws to mount a 55-45 advantage with 6:16 left in the contest.

Upper Iowa sunk a pair of free throws for the game's opening points before the Rangers claimed nine of the next 11, building a 12-4 advantage with 11:37 left in the opening half. The Peacocks stormed back with the next nine points to reclaim the lead and owned a three-point edge with 7:09 left. UW-P responded with the next eight points to stake a 22-17 lead with 3:47 left and enjoyed a 29-25 lead at intermission.

UW-P's lead quickly dissipated in the second half with Upper Iowa tying the contest with 17:26 remaining. The lead changes hands four times over the next seven minutes before the Rangers seized control with their backbreaking 12-2 spurt.

Bronson led all scorers with 20 points, going seven-for-12 from the field and three-of-four from three-point range. Tara Knapstein tallied 17 points and dished out a game-high five assists while Danielle Slivka chipped in eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Whitney Kieffer paced Upper Iowa with 17 points while Lauren Buck added 10 points and eight rebounds.

UW-Parkside shot 53.3 percent (eight-for-15) from three-point land while limiting the visitors to shooting just 24 percent (six-for-25) from beyond the arc.

The Rangers hit the road for the first time this weekend, heading up to Saint Paul, Minn. for the Radisson Hotel Roseville Classic. UW-P will face Minnesota State University-Moorhead on Friday before taking on host Concordia University Saint Paul on Saturday. Both games tip off at 5 p.m.
