SOMERS, Wis. (Oct 20, 2013)-- Head Coach Troy Fabiano became just the 21st active coach in NCAA Division II to notch 200 wins as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer squad extended its win streak to five and its unbeaten run to eight games, edging Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Rockhurst University 1-0 during Senior Day on Sunday at Wood Road Field.

Vianey Hernandez collected the lone score of the contest, heading the ball past the keeper in the 20th minute on a corner kick. Alex Johnson served in the ball with Stephanie Barsuli feeding it to Hernandez who collected her second goal in as many games.

The Rangers (10-2-2, 8-2-2 GLVC) dominated the Hawks (8-4-3, 6-3-3 GLVC) in the opening 45 minutes of play, owning an 8-1 edge in shots including a 3-0 advantage in shots on target.

Rockhurst's best scoring opportunity came in the 56th minute with a Taylor Skala header banging off the post.

"It was a game of two halves. We created plenty of opportunities in the first half, unfortunately we only had one goal to show for it," said Fabiano, now in his 16th season as coach, owning a career winning percentage of  .720 with six NCAA Tournament appearances and four GLVC Tournament Championships. "We managed the game well and that has been a strength of this team all year,"

Goalkeeper Mallory Geurts made one save on the day, earning her eighth shutout of the season. Her counterpart Ali Wallner finished with three saves while allowing one goal.

The victory was the Rangers fifth straight while remaining unbeaten over the last eight games (7-0-1). The victory also boosted the squad's record at home to 9-0 in 2013.

"It was great to see all the alumnae at the game. The success all falls on them. They have a blue collar attitude and work extremely hard," said Fabiano.

"200 wins means we're doing something well and I'm really proud of the success our teams have had off the field."

Sunday's contest was also senior day with Stephanie Barsuli, Jasmine Espino, Michelle Girard, Alex Johnson and Karley Mecko honored at halftime for their outstanding careers. The five student-athletes, all majoring in health science, posted a career record of 52-14-7 over the past four seasons, making three trips to the NCAA Tournament while owning a record of 31-2-4 at Wood Road Field.

The Rangers close the regular season with three straight road games, beginning on Friday with a 5 p.m. showdown with Drury University.
