SOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 13, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer squad suffered its first setback at Wood Road Field this season, stumbling 3-0 to the University of Southern Indiana in a Great Lakes Valley Conference showdown on Sunday afternoon.
The Screaming Eagles (4-6-2, 3-6-1 GLVC) opened the scoring in the 27th minute with Julio Roda tallying a header goal off a pass from Tyler White. USI maintained a 1-0 lead at the halftime break, outshooting the Rangers (6-5-1, 5-5 GLVC) 5-3 in the first 45 minutes of play.
Southern Indiana struck again in the 56th minute with Steve Sokol finding the back of the net with Stephen Tuma earning the assist before concluding the scoring with a Tyler White free kick goal in the 60th minute.
Southern Indiana finished the contest with a slim 12-10 edge in shots with UW-P holding a 9-5 advantage in the second 45 minutes of action.
Marcos Perez finished with four saves in the losing effort while his counterpart, Jeffrey Neidlinger logged two saves to claim the shutout.
The Rangers, now 5-1-1 at Wood Road Field in 2013, continue their homestand on Friday, welcoming William Jewell College to Wood Road Field.
