SOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 11, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer squad collected its third consecutive shutout on Friday, cruising to a 3-0 victory over the University of Illinois Springfield in a Great Lakes Valley Conference clash at Wood Road Field.
The Rangers (7-2-2, 5-2-2 GLVC) got on the board early with
Katie Gavin finding the back of the net in the 11th minute off an
Alex Johnson corner kick. UW-Parkside took the 1-0 edge into the break, owning a 9-3 edge in shots.
Kaela Hoecherl doubled the Ranger lead in the 59th minute scoring off a feed from Gavin.
Emily Konior tallied the contest's final goal, converting a penalty kick in the 76th minute of play.
UW-P outgunned the Prairie Stars (1-10, 0-9 GLVC) 27-4 in shots, including a commanding 18-1 edge during the second 45 minutes of play.
Mallory Guerts recorded two saves in goal to secure her third consecutive shutout and sixth of the season. The Rangers' defense has not allowed a goal in 366 minutes, a streak spanning across four games. The Prairie Stars' Robin Damron absorbed the loss, making six saves and allowing three goals.
The Rangers return to the pitch on Sunday, hosting the University of Southern Indiana at noon.
