KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Sept. 14, 2012)-- In a battle of regional powers the University of Wisconsin-Parkside blinked first, yielding a goal in the 52nd minute to fall 1-0 to host Rockhurst University on Friday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference women's soccer match at Bourke Field.
The game was a showdown of regionally ranked squads with the Rangers (3-1-1, 2-1 GLVC) making the trek to Kansas City ranked fifth in the Midwest Region while the host Hawks (4-0, 3-0 GLVC) began the afternoon as the region's fourth ranked squad.
Rockhurst's Kasey Lierz tallied the game's lone scoring, slipping the ball into the upper right corner from 10-yards out with Julia Bartolacci contributing the assist in the 52nd minute of action. That proved to be all the offense necessary as the hosts kept the Rangers off the scoreboard for the first time this season.
The Hawks finished the contest with a 13-3 edge in shots including a 6-2 edge in shots on target. UW-Parkside's
Stephanie Barsuli tallied both of the team's strikes on goal.
Goalkeeper
Michelle Girard tied a season-high with five saves in 90 minutes of work while Rockhurst's Lucy Sullivan collected a pair of saves.
The Rangers will look to rebound on Sunday, taking on William Jewell College with kickoff slated for 12 p.m.
