SOMERS, Wis. (Sept. 1, 2012)-- A late goal in regulation tied the score for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team as the Rangers and Saginaw Valley State University (Mich.) played to a 2-2 double overtime tie on a wet and soggy Saturday afternoon at Wood Road Field.
The host Rangers (1-0-1) grabbed the early advantage with
Crystal Chalery banging home a goal in the 30th minute, bouncing the ball off the post and in after a scramble in front of the net with
Madison Pickett and
Alex Johnson getting credit with assists. The UWP lead proved fleeting as the Cardinals (0-1-1) equalized the score just 81 seconds later with Skylen Powell scoring off a pass from Charley Porter.
Saginaw Valley State surged ahead in the 75th minute with Lexie Brisson-Fast knocking the ball in on a 50-50 ball with the Ranger keeper off a serve from Porter. UWP knotted the score with just 74 seconds left as
Brynn Darga chipped the ball over the Cardinal goalkeeper's head from 30 yards out to conclude the scoring.
UWP's
Michelle Girard and
Gloria Castaneda split time in net for the second straight game, Girard notched five saves playing the first half and both overtime sessions while Castanada made one save logging 45 minutes of action. SVSU's Laura Ivezaj turned away five shots and yielding two goals in 110 minutes of work.
The Rangers return to action on Friday, September 7, hosting Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Missouri S&T University at 3:30 p.m.
