Rangers Tame Timberwolves, 3-2

SOMERS, Wis. (Aug. 30, 2012)-- Three goals in a 24-minute span helped power the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer squad to a 3-2 victory over Northwood University (Mich.) on Thursday afternoon in the 2012 season opener at Wood Road Field.

The visiting Timberwolves (1-0) opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a goal by Amanda Watson and took a 1-0 lead into halftime despite the Rangers (1-0) holding a 6-1 edge in shots.

UW-Parkside's Megan Owens tallied the equalizer in the 58th minute, finding the back of the net in a scramble in front of goal with Ashley Meyer tallying the assist. Kelsey Armour pushed the UWP edge to 2-1 in the 70th minute with a goal off a rebound from an initial blast from Ashley Meyer while Meyer posted her third assist of the afternoon in the 82nd minute, threading the ball to Jasmine Espino who belted the ball in for what proved to be the game-winner.

Northwood quickly responded with Madison Pines scoring on a laser from 40-yards out to close the gap to one goal in the 84th minute and conclude the scoring.

Michelle Girard and Gloria Casteneda shared time in goal for the Rangers, Girard managed the net for the opening 45 minutes of play before giving way to Casteneda who was credited with the win while tallying one save.

UWP finished the game with a commanding 18-8 lead in shots, including nine of the 12 fired on frame.

The Rangers return to action on Saturday, hosting Saginaw Valley State University (Mich.) at 2:30 p,m.
