SOMERS, Wis. (Dec. 30, 2012)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball squad closed out the calendar year and its non-conference slate with a dominating 89-52 victory over Indiana University Northwest on Sunday afternoon inside DeSimone Gymnasium. Four players ended the day in double figures while the Rangers' defense generated 31 turnovers.

The 24th-ranked Rangers (6-2) led wire-to-wire, racing out to an 8-0 lead. The visiting RedHawks (6-14) closed the gap to just three with 16:08 remaining in the opening half and again with 14:48 left before UW-Parkside a 20-4 offensive to take a commanding 19-point advantage. The Rangers continued to pull away in the opening half, enjoying a 49-26 lead at intermission, sinking 56.7 percent (17-for-30) of its shots from the floor.

UWP cruised in the second half, leading by at least 25 points the rest of the way en route to the 37-point blowout victory.

Gaby Bronson led the Ranger scoring effort, netting 16 points in just 19 minutes of action while also collecting four steals. Jaleesa Trussell finished seven-for-11 from the floor for a season-high 14 points while also tallying four steals. Sierra West chipped in a dozen points while dishing out six assists. Alayna Cotter was the fourth Ranger in double figures, coming off the bench and chipping in a season-high 10 points along with five rebounds.

Val Zulevic led IU Northwest with a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds while Brianne Wischman added 10 points.

The Rangers held a 42-18 edge in points in the paint and finished the afternoon with 19 steals.

UW-Parkside returns to the hardwood on Thursday, beginning Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 5:30 p.m. showdown against Missouri S&T University in Rolla, Mo.
