Complete All-Midwest Region Team
SOMERS, Wis. (Nov. 19, 2012)-- The accolades continue for University of Wisconsin-Parkside defenders
Lauki'i Cheng and
Emily Konior, both earning spots on the Daktronics All-Midwest Region Women's Soccer Team on Monday. A total of 26 players from across the region were honored for their prowess on the pitch with Cheng and Konior both securing Second Team honors.
Cheng, a 2012 First Team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection, lands a spot on the All-Midwest team for the fourth time in her decorated career. Cheng was a First Team All-Region selection and an Honorable Mention All-American by Daktronics in 2008 as a freshman while earning All-Midwest Region Second Team honors in 2010 and 2011. The senior helped anchor a defense that yielded just eight goals in 14 conference games, including eight shutouts while not allowing a goal in the final 662 minutes of GLVC play. Cheng, who played and started all 20 games for the Rangers this season, was also a threat on offense, netting one goal and four assists.
The defender from Kaneohe, Hawaii closed out her tenure with a career record of 61-13-7 (2008, 2010-2012), making four trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament while winning the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship as freshmen in 2008.
Konior, a Third Team All-GLVC selection in 2012, earns a spot on the All-Region squad for the first time in her career. The sophomore was a key cog of the Rangers defensive unit that posted nine shutouts on the season, including a 2-0 shutout victory over William Jewell College in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 9. Konior was additionally a huge threat on the offensive end, scoring six goals, including a team-best four game winners. The sophomore was deadly on set pieces and converted both of her penalty kick opportunities this season.
The 13-player First Team and 13-player Second Team was selected by the region's sports information directors.
The Rangers closed out the 2012 season with a 14-5-1 record and an appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16, suffering a 2-0 setback to No. 3 Grand Valley State University on Friday in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Finals.
