MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. (Oct. 5, 2012)-- A pair of scores from
Collin Monahan guided the visiting University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team to a 4-2 victory over Maryville University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference showdown on Friday afternoon at Scott Gallagher Field.
The host Saints (2-10, 2-7 GLVC) opened the scoring with JT File in the 15th minute with a header off a pass from Zach Bavol. The Rangers (4-6-1, 3-6 GLVC) equalized in the 27th minute with
Austin Robb converting a penalty kick as the two sides battled to a stalemate after the opening 45 minutes in the rain drenched contest.
Monahan put UW-Parkside up 2-1 in the 50th minute, curling a long shot past the goalkeeper from 35 yards out. Maryville responded with Gus Reinitz scoring off a corner kick six minutes later off a feed from Nate Alonzo.
Marc Glidden tallied the go-ahead goal in the 84th minute threading the ball past the defense off a
Kinkade Lo assist before Monahan iced the game with his second strike of the night in the 90th minute off a Glidden assist.
Nick Huftalin tallied four saves for the Rangers in goal to pick up the victory while James Hohenstein absorbed the defeat for Maryville, yielding four goals and collecting four saves.
The Rangers return to the pitch on Sunday, facing University of Missouri-Saint Louis at 2:30 p.m.
