SOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 24, 2012)-- Three goals in the second 45 minutes of action derailed the University of Wisconsin-Parkside's final game of 2012 as the Rangers fell 3-0 to Lewis University on Wednesday afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley Conference men's soccer match at Wood Road Field.
The two squads battled to a scoreless first half with the visiting Flyers (9-8, 9-6 GLVC) holding a slim 10-9 edge in shots. Lewis broke open the deadlock just under two minutes into the second half with George Thomson squeezing the ball past the Ranger keeper off a shot from a sharp angle on the left side.
The contest remained a one-goal affair until the 78th minute when Cristhian Ramirez tallied a breakaway goal while Colin Donnally sealed the game with a goal in the 81st minute off an assist from the boot of Luke Comerouski.
The Rangers (6-9-1, 5-9 GLVC) had two shots bounce off the post, a rocket by
Marc Glidden in the 10th minute and a blast by
Antonio Gonzalez in the 65th minute.
Nick Huftalin tallied six saves in the losing effort, logging all 90 minutes in goal. Of the 1,550 minutes of soccer played in 2012 by the Rangers, the redshirt sophomore logged all but 14 of those minutes between the posts. His counterpart, Sebastian Kieruzal logged four saves to pick up the clean sheet.
